Got you intrigued, didn’t I? Lacking a smiley face, the post title gives the impression that I am really up for a super-duper trophy. Nothing of sorts, but still very excited to be nominated for the Liebster Award, a blogging networking tool that connects new bloggers with a limited following. I have actually been nominated by three awesome bloggers, whose pages I recommend you visit. While I was answering the questions posed by Erica writing over at Shots and Socks, Aubrey at The Mamahood was nominating me as well. And while I was getting ready to publish this post, I found out that Carolann at Sassy Townhouse Living got me down on her list as well. That’s how I ended up answering 32 questions, some revealing interesting details about myself.
1. Why do you blog?
It started as an exercise to practice writing. When I was much younger I used to write, short stories and poetry, and since I’ve recently started working on myself, I was prompted to find out what my passions are. So here I am rambling away. Once I started posting I realized I love all the new things I learn about being a parent and wanted to share my experiences with my readers. So far I haven’t been very good about focusing on relevant information, but my hope is to get my act together in the next month or so. So stay tuned for some interesting content!
2. What is the story behind your blog’s name?
The origin of this syntax lies in the way I have positively reviewed meals for years now, to my husband’s amusement. Apparently, as an ESL-individual I’m misusing this construction. Or perhaps I am overusing it. I should check back on this. The bottom line is, “It’s been delicious” stuck and we’re now using it to describe any delightful and enjoyable experience. It has become my husband’s favorite line. Who would have thought, after all the fun he’s poked at me because of it? – See more here.
3. If you could live 1 day over again, what day would it be?
The day Copiloo was born. I would hire a birth photographer and disregard Hubbyloo’s claim that he would be able to record the birth. You know what the dude did? Started recording when the delivery was over and he put the phone in his pocket. *rolling my eyes* I do give him credit for keeping my parents online, on Skype, throughout the process – he was responsible in that regard.
4. Describe yourself in 3 words.
Friendly. Undecided. Spontaneous.
5. Cats or Dogs?
Dogs. How can you not?
6. Who is that 1 person who has influenced you?
This is something that kinda nags me. I don’t think I had such a figure in my life that I can say that influenced me or whose presence impacted me in an extraordinary way. I may update this later if someone comes to mind.
7. What is your must – visit holiday destination?
The Maldives. I will not die before I get there. I’m waiting for my husband to take me there on our honeymoon. Yes, our wedding did take place 4.5 years ago, and we have not been on our honeymoon. We traveled around the ol’c country for a couple of weeks (that’s where our second wedding reception was), but… I mean… how can you take a girl on a honeymoon to her homeland? Pfff…
8. The worst movie you have ever seen?
It was so bad that I’ve already forgot about it. There have been tons. Before the kid, I used to be OCD about movies and books. If I started one, no matter how painful it was, I had to finish it. Now, I have better things that need to be done in my spare time.
9. Your favorite color?
Currently… I think pink. *gasp* It is the first time in my life that I am actually wearing pink. And it’s madness – magenta dresses, coral pink tunics, neon pink parkas… Then I love green, yellow, red and blue. And white and black. I just love all colors, just that at times one is favored over the others.
10. What makes you laugh?
Silly, childish jokes. My husband. Other people’s laughter. Professional laughter providers: Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver. And I love sitcoms (HIMYM top favorite at the moment, closely followed by Modern Family).
1. What made you want to start a blog?
See Question 1 above.
2. How did you come up with the title for your blog?
See Question 2 above. Why can’t life be delicious? When I’m happy life is sweet, when I’m grouchy it turns sour. Although I do have my moments, most of the times you’ll hear me contently and enthusiastically pronounce “Ahhh… It’s been delicious!” – See more here.
3. How long have you been blogging for?
The first time I’ve ever blogged was some time in 2005 (or 2006) while I was an exchange student in Portugal. I actually had quite a few posts on that blog, but unfortunately I am not able to locate the link anymore. Then, this blog was launched in October 2013, but I have not posted regularly at all. I am hoping things will be different going forward.
4. What is your biggest pet peeve?
Grammar errors. Especially when I notice them on the pages of people who have large followings. It drives me crazy! I always say out loud, regardless of company or lack there of, I am an ESL speaker and I have a better command of the English language. How hard can it be?? Their/they’re, your/you’re aaarrrggghhh! And get your tenses right for God’s sake!
5. What is a secret obsession of yours?
Haagendazs coffee ice cream?… I mean, for about two years I’ve been eating a pint a night. If we’re out of it, I’d get in the car and go to the nearest market to buy some. I am a lazy person. You understand why I think it’s an obsession?
6. What is something on your bucket list?
Northern lights and living for at least a month in Alaska.
7. What is one of the hardest things you’ve had to overcome?
Fortunately, I have been blessed with a good, drama/tragedy-free life. I went down memory lane for a bit, in search of some key moments that were either painful, or difficult in one way or another, but I came out empty handed. If there is something that I kinda struggle with, that gives me a hard time, and I am working hard on overcoming, that would be my husband’s harsh words when we get into an argument. He’s got some work to do on controlling his feelings and anger. Words can cut deep. It is hard to forgive and forget.
8. What was one of the happiest moments of your life?
Since I’ve had my son 20 months ago, I regularly have these moments when I just look at him and my heart fills up with love and in moments like that it’s hard to imagine I could be any happier.
9. What is something that nobody knows about you?
I really don’t think there is one thing that nobody knows about me. There may be things that only one or two people know about, but something that only I know of… can’t think of any.
10. What is your favorite post, or one you are most proud of?
The one about the face of kindness. Not necessarily because the writing was stellar, or the visuals were superb, but this story about a random act of kindness is just mind-blowing.
11. What is it that motivates you and what do you want to become?
I am one of those people that is motivated by praise and recognition, and achievement. Which makes it hard at times to start something as obviously there is no accomplishment before the work needed to be done to motivate me to start. Man, I am f***ed up! I also get going when I know I am helping others, and make a significant contribution to a meaningful cause.
As to what I want to become… I have just posted this the other day. My future may be in helping others through yoga.
1. Who is your hero?
There are so many people out there who are everyday heroes. Whenever I hear a story in the news about someone overcoming a tragedy and not letting themselves drown in sorrow, pity and what-could-have-beens, they become my heroes. I have heroes in my life, too: my mom and Hubbyloo to mention just two.
2. If you had to choose one of the following, which would it be and why? Wealth, Success, or Love.
Love. Because it is the one thing that has the power to make you truly happy and fulfills you to such an extend that you feel there’s nothing missing in your life. I had both wealth and success at one point or another in my life, but when I loved and was loved was by far the best time of all.
3. What is the most exciting thing you have ever done?
Skydiving. Less than a month ago. I don’t think that experience will ever be surpassed.
4. Name one thing in your life you can live without and why?
My iPhone. I chose the iPhone, because I am glued to this friggin’ thing. I know for a fact that I CAN live without it although most of the time I act like it’s an extension of my body, if not an essential organ. This past summer I lost my phone right at the beginning of a two-week holiday. It was so refreshing to have the hands to myself, the eyes on my surroundings, and my attention given to those keeping me company.
5. Name one thing in your life you can’t live without and why?
Can’t think of anything. If my life depended on some meds, then I’d mention those. No matter how strongly we believe we could not live without something (my eyelash curler and concealer) or someone (I cringe at the thought of living without my son, or my husband, or my parents), the chances are we will survive any kind of loss. And quite possibly, come out stronger from the experience.
6. Where do you dream of traveling to and why?
See Erica’s Question 7 above. Also, pretty much all over the planet. Because nature is beautiful and always full of surprises, and cultures are interesting, intriguing and exposure to cultures different than what we’re used to can provide you with quite an experience.
7. What is your favorite website?
Don’t really have one. I used to be religious about checking Huffington Post until I had a baby and then I relied on my Facebook feed and my husband for news. Hmm… so I guess, you can say Facebook is my favorite website.
8. What is your favorite band?
The Beatles, no doubt about it. I’d have been a groupie if born a few decades earlier.
9. Do you own a pet? Tell us about it. If you currently don’t own one, tell us about a past pet you loved. If never owned a pet, tell us why!
His name is Sawyer and he is the sweetest red-haired golden retriever you’ll ever meet! (Yep, this is what we, dog owners, all say.) Hubbyloo and I got him when we started dating, he was eight weeks old. That was six years ago. He’s a momma’s boy, just like Copiloo. Given that he was overly attached to me (always by my feet, following me to get a glass of water, when switching chairs, sleeping on my side of the bed, and the list can go on and on…), it was quite a shock when Copiloo entered our lives. It’s hard for him not to feel ignored when our walks not only got shorter but also less frequent, when I’m always cradling a mini-human, when my side of the bed has been taken over by same mini-human. In spite of this, he has grown to love Copiloo and they are without a doubt best buddies. Sawyer puts up with a lot of crap from a mini-human who is constantly discovering his surroundings and testing limits (of both humans and dogs).
10. What is your all time favorite store to shop for clothes?
